The Power of Focus – Getting Traction

I never hit a shot, not even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. First I see the ball where I want it to finish, nice and white and sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes, and I see the ball going there: its path, trajectory, and shape, even its behavior on landing. Then there is a sort of fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality.

Phenomenal success is the natural outcome of a focused life. Companies invest $2.4 million for one commercial during the Super Bowl game to capture one minute of your concentrated focus. The main reason most people struggle professionally and personally is simply lack of focus. They allow themselves to be easily distracted and interrupted.

Our Three Points for getting traction:

1. Get Clear!
2. Get Focused!

So what exactly is focus? Here is a great definition:

F = First things first
O = Other things second
C = Cut out the unimportant
U = Unify behind Destiny
S = Stick with it

Every great life has a focus. Focus equals power. Focus gives you both strength and direction.

A majority of leaders can do twenty different things at once and do them all well. Most leaders today are living scattered, frantic lives that desperately need a focus.

Day by day they add more and more activities but are not seeing progress. The missing piece of the puzzle is their lack of focus. When you start understanding and applying the principle of focus to your life or organization you will become a virtually unstoppable force.

Lion trainers take a stool into the cage with a lion. Why a stool? It tames the lion better than anything. When the trainer holds the stool with the legs extended toward the lion’s face, the animal tries to focus on all four legs at once. And that paralyzes him. Divided focus will do the same thing to you; it will paralyze your forward progress. Divided focus always works against you.

Why focus your life church, or organization?

You want to go through the focusing process because it will move you in a specific direction, to become something, to accomplish a dream, to make a significant difference and maximize your life and organization.

It is important to focus your life and/or organization so you will avoid the pain of confusion, inaction, and burnout.

3. Get Moving!

Many people think that strategic planning is a drag so they procrastinate and never move to design an ACTION plan for the future. Creating a strategic action plan can actually be exciting and energy producing when done together as a team.

To get motivated toward creating strategic plans for the future, ask yourself this question: “What has my lack of clear direction cost me and my organization in the past?”

DOING Means Overcoming PROCRASTINATION!

No, not someday…today! No question, the key to long-term success is constantly taking positive action to move in the direction of your dreams and goals for the future. It is time to get moving! Start preparing your strategic plan now.

Our destiny can only be reached through the vehicle of a proven strategic plan in which we must fervently believe and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to outrageous success.
