What is Success?

I have met many people in the world who are highly spiritual but mentally struggle with the concept of the need to become successful in the marketplace. Whenever a person has internal questioning going on inside their head concerning a subject, you can can never have the confidence to act upon what you believe.

People ask me all the time, “How have you achieved so much success in life?”

The following belief system has been deeply ingrained into my mindset and has empowered me to not only have influence in the church but also in the marketplace:

It’s your moral and spiritual obligation to become a SUCCESS in life.

It’s really important for you to think about this statement over and over again.

For some of you, your belief systems will reject this thought because culture has conditioned people to have a negative perception about successful, powerful, and wealthy people. Not to mention, how many clergy and preachers have thundered from their pulpits that life is all about how spiritual you can become and some have almost demonized successful people. I ask you to follow me for just a moment.

This statement will also empower some of you to say, “YES! I love this thought.” For those of you, it’s imperative that if success is your obligation, you better have a CLEAR definition of SUCCESS in your mind. You cannot hit a TARGET that you don’t clearly define.

The real question is…How do you define the world SUCCESS? Is it really possible to have INFLUENCE in the marketplace by just being spiritual?

Maybe this will help you this statement will help you process this subject:

You gain INFLUENCE in the CHURCH by being SPIRITUAL
but you gain influence in the MARKETPLACE by being SUCCESSFUL.

How do you gain more influence in the church?

By being spiritual! So the person who preaches the best, prays the best, sings the best, dances the best, or plays the keyboards the best gains influence inside the tiny four walls of the church.

The Challenge & The Problem

The MARKETPLACE honestly doesn’t care how spiritual you are…that you go to church, can preach, pray, sing, and clap your hands.

The only thing the marketplace cares about is this one word…SUCCESS!

Just think about the the people in the world with the most influence. My mind instantly thinks about Oprah, Joel Osteen, Mark Cubans, Elon Musk, and even the sometimes loved and sometimes hated President Donald Trump. They all have one common similarity…they are all successful in their trade.

God told Joshua He wanted him to be a success in life and gave him the path to achieving it…read the #1 success book ever written…the Bible.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1:8

This scripture reveals this powerful truth, becoming a success in life isn’t “God’s choice” but it’s your choice.

We love to hear the story of the life of Joseph. A man who not only influenced God’s people but also influence the marketplace (Potiphar’s house, prison, and Egypt). How did he gain so much influence and make such an incredible impact? He was…Successful.

“The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.” – Genesis 39:2

I love this scripture because it shows us that God is our secret sauce to becoming a success in life and in the marketplace.

Defining Success – Your Target

The dictionary defines success as, “A person or thing that achieves desired aims or objectives.

Let’s me take a moment and define success from my perspective:

Success is…

1. Knowing my God-given assignment
2. Maximizing my potential
3. Making progress toward achieving my goals and hitting my targets
4. Sowing seeds that benefit others

In my mind, I can have goals, but if I achieve things God didn’t call me to do, I am actually a failure.

In order for me to fulfill my assignment, because it’s bigger than me, I must constantly grow to my full potential.

I must also have the confidence to set goals that are bigger than me, because if I don’t, I will not and cannot grow internally and externally.

Then I must become like God and be a giver by adding value to as many people as I can and to the marketplace.

This is my mindset…

When people in the MARKETPLACE see my SUCCESS then I will have the INFLUENCE I need to make my VOICE heard and will be REMEMBERED because I made a DIFFERENCE in the entire world.

YES! Your life needs to INFLUENCE and IMPACT both the CHURCH and the MARKETPLACE.

How? By being SPIRITUAL and SUCCESSFUL!
